SmugVault - Store everything for next to nothing. -

SmugMug has always allowed everyone to upload an unlimited number of web-displayable files - JPEG, GIF, PNG, and MP4 - but to date we haven’t been able to accept the RAW files generated by modern digital cameras. For years our customers have been asking, begging, and pleading for us to let them upload their priceless [...]

I’m thrilled that O’Reilly is putting on a great performance and operations conference, so I’m especially happy to be speaking there. I’m on a great-sounding panel, Success: A Survival Guide. I’m sure you’ll hear about our first few years where, like clockwork on the same days each year, we got [...]

SmugMug loves OAuth -
06/11/2008 06:12 PM

SmugMug’s API now supports OAuth! We actually rolled out support a few weeks ago, but our documentation has turned into such a mess, I delayed announcing it. Finally, though, I just couldn’t keep quiet - I’m so excited I just had to tell someone!
So I’m sorry the docs are all messed up - [...]

Getting lots of requests about an iPhone app for SmugMug. As you no-doubt know, we’re enormous Apple fans over here, and iPhone fans in particular. Most of the company camped out in line at the Palo Alto store (see stories here and here), we were the first photo sharing app with an iPhone [...]

Everyone knows that SmugMug is a heavy user of S3, storing well over half a petabyte of data (non-replicated) there. What you may not know is that EC2 provides a core part of our infrastructure, too. There’s a nasty problem with Linux 2.6 even when you have a ton of RAM. No [...]

Sam “Shizam” Nichols, creator of the video player, donning his SmugMug Hero persona. See it in HD.
The state of video codecs online has been a mess and there’s been no clear choice, making it very difficult to do awesome video sharing. Luckily, all of that changed when Adobe finally added H.264 support to [...]
